Glutamine and intestinal health

Glutamine plays a central role in the balance of intestinal flora and the immune system. It can positively influence the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes , inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, and increase the production of protective antibodies in the intestine. Studies suggest that glutamine may be helpful in regulating inflammation, preventing bacterial overgrowth, and supporting the intestinal barrier. (Perna et al., 2019)

Glutamine and the intestinal barrier

Glutamine plays a crucial role in the health of the intestinal barrier. It promotes the growth of the intestinal mucosa, supports enterocyte regeneration, and helps reduce intestinal permeability. Glutamine contributes to stabilizing the intestinal barrier and improving nutrient absorption, particularly under stressful conditions such as infections, injuries, or inflammation. Because it also supports cellular metabolism and antioxidant protection mechanisms, glutamine is considered essential for intestinal health. (Wang et al., 2015)
